Here at Whiskers Vets, we’ve always prided ourselves on creating a comfortable environment for every pet. We’ve been an accredited Cat Friendly Clinic for many years, a recognition we’re very proud of!

We’re always looking for new ways to make visits even better, and that’s why we’re absolutely thrilled to announce that we’ve recently become an accredited Dog Friendly Clinic! This fantastic scheme, developed by Dogs Trust and the British Veterinary Behaviour Association, is all about ensuring the most comfortable and stress-free veterinary care possible for your beloved dogs and for you, their owners. We knew we had to be a part of it!

So, what does our new dog-friendly accreditation mean for you?

The Dog Friendly Clinic Scheme is designed to give our team even more in-depth knowledge in dog behaviour. We truly understand that for many dogs, coming to the vet can feel overwhelming. This can show up as reluctance to come inside, worry during examinations, or struggling during treatments. Our accreditation means we’re even better equipped to:

  • Spot the Wiggles (and Worries!): Our team is trained to recognise early signs of anxiety in dogs. This allows us to gently adjust our approach, using low-stress handling techniques to make sure your dog feels as safe and calm as possible from the moment they arrive.
  • Create Calm Corners: We’ve thought carefully about our clinic environment. We provide comfortable, secure spaces, and we’re all for using positive reinforcement – think lots of liver paste and lick mats – to create happy associations with their time here. It’s about building trust, not fear.
  • Tips for Pet Parents: We’re also armed with more practical tips and guidance to share with you on how to prepare your pets for visits in advance. Simple things at home can make a huge difference, helping your dog feel more confident and less worried.

Our ongoing mission for happy paws!

Joining the Dog Friendly Clinic Scheme isn’t just about a certificate on the wall; it’s a natural extension of our commitment to your dog’s emotional wellbeing. This commitment is deeply personal for us. Many members of our team, including our owners Alexia and Lucy, share their lives with anxious doggies too. We understand firsthand the challenges and the immense joy and love that comes from seeing a worried pup feel safe and happy.
