Not All Dentals Are Equal
Discover the difference: safer, gentler dentistry you can trust.
Healthy teeth are essential to your pet’s comfort, overall health and longevity. Left unchecked, dental disease causes discomfort, infection and inflammation that doesn’t stay in the mouth, it can affect the heart, kidneys, liver and more. The Whiskers team use dental radiographs as standard, alongside a proven two-stage process, for safer, compassionate dental treatment you can trust.
Why dental health matters more than you think
- Dental disease is extremely common and often goes unnoticed until advanced.
- Pets hide pain exceptionally well, your dog or cat may still eat and play.
- Research links periodontal disease with kidney, liver, heart and lung disease, arthritis and more.
Our dental approach: safe, thorough & pain-aware
Modern, evidence-based veterinary dentistry shows that a staged approach delivers better outcomes, two shorter anaesthetics for the same price. Longer anaesthetic times can increase risk and slow recovery, particularly for smaller pets, older animals, or those with underlying health conditions.
This stage focuses on prevention and early detection, and is part of routine care:
- Admission appointment to discuss your concerns
- Full oral examination (only possible under anaesthesia)
- Full-mouth dental X-rays
- Removal of plaque and tartar (descale and polish)
- Immediate removal of loose or very painful teeth if appropriate on the day
- Recovery monitoring and personalised homecare advice
Complimentary dental homecare pack included.
Without radiographs, your vet is only able to examine the visible part of the tooth.
- Over 60% of the tooth lies below the gumline
- Detects root infections, fractures, resorption and bone loss
- Helps preserve healthy teeth and plan treatment accurately
- Improves safety and comfort during extractions
- Allows long-term monitoring of dental health
Without X-rays, serious problems can be missed, meaning ongoing pain for your pet.
Some pets will need further care following assessment. Stage Two allows our team to:
- Remove infected or diseased teeth
- Suture gums for optimal healing
- Provide tailored pain relief and follow-up care
Why not to delay treatment
Dental disease does not resolve on its own. Each year it progresses, leading to greater discomfort and more complex treatment. Acting early with routine dog or cat dental care protects both health and wellbeing.
Many pet insurance policies now cover dental procedures, including cleanings and extractions, check your policy for details.
